Media Relations Coordinator

The American Legislative Exchange Council seeks a Media Relations Coordinator to join its high-impact public affairs team. This person will be responsible for media outreach and communications efforts that advance the ALEC principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism. The Media Relations Coordinator must exhibit keen strategic awareness, proven storytelling ability, competent media relations capabilities, and effective written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with reporters, journalists, and radio and television producers
  • Craft timely pitches and secure media placements for ALEC policy experts and thought leaders
  • Lead media monitoring and intelligence to increase awareness among ALEC staff of the issues of the day
  • Draft and disseminate of media materials including press releases, op-eds, talking points, and position statements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science, or related field with up to 2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Superb organizational and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to diplomatically prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated aptitude for written and oral communication
  • Experience working with members of the media
  • A firm commitment to ALEC principles
  • Attendance: This is an in-person role; no majority hybrid or remote options are currently available
  • Some travel is required for Annual Meeting and the States and Nation Policy Summit
  • Start date: Immediate
