Senator Bill Ketron is a native Tennessean and was born in Kingsport, Tennessee. He received his B.S. in political science and history from Middle Tennessee State University and is a graduate of Leadership Rutherford, the year-long government and community education program of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce. Outside of his work in the legislature, Sen. Ketron is the president of Universal International Insurance, an independent insurance agency in Murfreesboro started by his father in 1969.

In 2003 Sen. Ketron was elected to the Tennessee State Senate and currently serves as the Senate Majority Caucus Chair, to which he was elected in 2013. He previously served as Deputy Speaker of the Senate. Sen. Ketron is an active member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and serves as the Tennessee State Chair. He has sponsored legislation aimed at introducing occupational licensure reform as well as expanding educational reform across the state of Tennessee.

In addition to his work in the legislature, Sen. Ketron is active on numerous committees. He’s a member of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee, the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee, the Senate State and Local Government Committee and the Joint Fiscal Review Committee.

In his personal life, Sen. Ketron enjoys travel, hunting, skiing and gardening. He and his wife Theresa are both active members of First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. They have one daughter, Kelsey, who is vice president of his insurance agency and was recently elected to the state GOP Executive Committee.
