With the passage of AB5 and adoption of the ‘ABC’ test for independent contractor status in California, the Golden State sent shockwaves through the business community. A mere 11 months after AB5 became effective, California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition-22, exempting the gig-economy from AB5 and creating a ‘third category’ of workers in California.
