VIDEO: ALEC 49th Annual Meeting Highlights

Governance and policy-making works best when it is implemented and developed at the state and local level—closest to the people who will be impacted by those policies.

More than 1,200 attendees from across America gathered in Atlanta in July for the ALEC 49th Annual Meeting. The message they heard repeatedly was that states are a force for good in promoting the ALEC principles of limited government, federalism and free markets, as well as counteracting bad policy that we see coming out of Washington. Whether it be empowering parents to direct the educational future of their children, combatting human trafficking or protecting American industry from politically motivated investment schemes, state legislators continue to take the lead in improving the lives of Americans and providing innovative policy solutions.

We heard from many incredible speakers such as Former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, business visionary Vivek Ramaswamy, Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Dr. Alveda King, the Virginia Secretary of Education Amy Guidera, and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody. One of the common themes we heard from all of these speakers is that governance and policy-making works best when it is implemented and developed at the state and local level—closest to the people who will be impacted by those policies. We heard that the country is on the precipice of tremendous opportunity to build an American Majority that will help steer our nation to a brighter future.

We intend to seize that opportunity. This is ALEC’s time to shine!
