ALEC Statement on SCOTUS Ruling in Carson v. Makin

American families deserve educational freedom, and today’s ruling was another important step toward ensuring that parents, not government bureaucrats, are the ones in charge of their student’s education.

American families deserve educational freedom

Arlington, Va. – The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) today issued the following statement in support of the Supreme court ruling in the Carson v. Makin case stating that that religious schools cannot be excluded from a Maine program that offers tuition aid for private education:

“ALEC believes that no student or family should be forced to attend a school that fails to best meet their needs. We fully support the Supreme Court’s decision in Carson v. Makin to not only protect the free exercise of religion, but to also protect a parent’s right to choose the best educational environment for their student. American families deserve educational freedom, and today’s ruling was another important step toward ensuring that parents, not government bureaucrats, are the ones in charge of their student’s education.” -Andrew Handel, Director of ALEC’s Education and Workforce Development Task Force

ALEC is a leader in the education freedom movement to protect a parent’s right to choose the best educational environment for their students.
