State Legislators, Business Leaders Meet in Chicago
American Legislative Exchange Council 40th Annual Meeting
Promotes Collaboration, Participation in Policy Research
Chicago, Ill. (August 7, 2013)—More than 1,200 state legislators, business leaders, citizen groups and policy experts from around the country gather today in Chicago for the American Legislative Exchange Council 40th Annual Meeting. The three-day conference provides opportunities for attendees to exchange ideas and learn about the latest public policy trends and research in an academic setting.
“We’re pleased to celebrate forty years of bringing together state legislators, business leaders and policy experts to share research and experiences and help state governments run in more efficient and effective ways,” said Rep. John Piscopo, National Chairman of the American Legislative Exchange Council.
The Exchange Council is the country’s largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators. The organization fosters relationships between private and public sector members from around the country to develop best practice solutions to various state issues. The 40th Annual Meeting offers topics relating to environmental policy, education, health care and state fiscal reform, among others.
The conference will also provide attendees with opportunities to hear from notable speakers, including former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, Iowa Governor and ALEC co-founder Terry Branstad, Mississippi Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, economist Dr. Arthur Laffer and former UK Parliament Member Conor Burns
“The Exchange Council provides resources and hosts discussions to help educate leaders on today’s top issues,” said Ron Scheberle, executive director of the American Legislative Exchange Council. “Through educational workshops and task force meetings, our conference provides opportunities for legislators to learn how they can best serve their constituents. The Council helps foster the exchange of ideas between members.”
