Education Freedom in Louisiana: Jonathan Williams with Moon Griffon

Many have left Louisiana due to a lack of opportunity but that may soon change because of Governor Landry and legislative leaders in the Pelican State

After meeting with President Trump, six sitting governors, and key stakeholders at a White House roundtable, ALEC President and Chief Economist Jonathan Williams joined The Moon Griffon Show to highlight Louisiana’s GATOR plan and the state’s top 10 rankings in the 2025 ALEC Index of State Education Freedom.

I think I’m still on cloud nine after having lunch with President Trump and several other leaders from across the country, including Governor and Mrs. Landry. We had a chance to discuss the incredible movement—the magic moment— of school choice and parental empowerment sweeping the nation. It’s something that ALEC and our ALEC members across the country have been a part of and were pleased to talk about.

We discussed the great results in Louisiana and the improvements there due to the GATOR Plan, which was recently signed into law by Governor Landry and legislative leaders after a tremendous amount of hard work. It was an amazing opportunity to sit down and reflect on what has happened across the country following the lockdowns and the bad policies of the Biden administration that followed . It truly felt like a “Morning in America again” moment with President Trump as we looked ahead and discussed the future of education freedom across all 50 states.

I would look very soon for Louisiana to begin moving up the rankings when it comes to our Rich States, Poor States economic outlook report. It has already moved up in educational freedom, and I don’t think it will be long before you see people moving back into Louisiana and reversing these horrible trends that you and I have discussed on the air many times. So many people have been leaving Louisiana due to a lack of economic or educational opportunities, but because of what Governor Landry and the legislators have done, that may soon change.
