Washington Should Turn to the States for Solutions: ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson

In contrast to the policies coming out of Washington, all across the country, state legislators and governors are fighting for safe communities, jobs, and a quality education for students.

ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson today offered her response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address.

The contrast this week between President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address and the response from Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders could not be greater. Biden’s policies undermine our freedoms, our safety and our economic prosperity. Sanders offered a vision for America “where freedom reigns and liberty will never die.”

At ALEC, we stand for freedom, limited government, and federalism. We embrace policies that promote individual liberty and prosperity. We want to restore power to the states.

In contrast to the policies coming out of Washington, all across the country, state legislators and governors are fighting for safe communities, jobs, and a quality education for students. These are common sense priorities that lift up all Americans.

Under Joe Biden, Americans have suffered enough. Just this week, a new poll found 41% of Americans say their personal finances are worse today than when he was sworn in. Over the last two years, Americans have struggled to afford, and at times even find, basics ranging from baby formula to eggs to gas.

At ALEC, our fifty years of trusted state-based policy solutions has made me optimistic for this organization and our future. Good policy isn’t easy, but it is necessary. We plan to continue leading the charge in the states, producing positive change for all Americans. We welcome legislators of all parties to work together with us to collaborate on the best policy ideas for hardworking Americans.
