Act to Define Clean Energy

NOTE: Prior to task force meetings, ALEC posts these legislative member-submitted draft model policies to our website. The draft model policies are then discussed, debated, and voted on by ALEC task force members. Policies that receive final approval by legislators on the ALEC Board of Directors become official ALEC model policy. Draft model policies that fail to become official ALEC model policy are removed from the website.

Act to Define Clean Energy

Title: An act recognizing nuclear as clean energy.

Description: This bill modifies provisions relating to clean energy.

Highlight: Provides for the promotion and development of clean energy resources for declared purposes; defines terms and revises definitions. Where applicable replacing “Renewable energy” or “Renewable energy sources” with “Clean energy” or “Clean energy sources”

Section 1: Findings

It is in the best interest of the state of ____ and its people to encourage and promote the development of clean energy resources to advance reliable, economic, and long-term sources of energy supply, promote efficiencies in the generation, storage, transmission, and utilization of electric energy, and enhance the long-term stability of the energy resources and requirements of the state.

Section 2: Definitions

(a) Sections of current statute defining “renewable energy” will be updated with “clean energy”

(b) The statutes using the definition of “clean energy” will be updated to include power generation supplied by nuclear fuel.
