Standardized Testing Choice Act

Prior to task force meetings, ALEC posts these legislative member-submitted draft model policies to our website. The draft model policies are then discussed, debated, and voted on by ALEC task force members. Policies that receive final approval by legislators on the ALEC Board of Directors become official ALEC model policy. Draft model policies that fail to become official ALEC model policy are removed from the website.

Summary: This model policy permits students to take the Classical Learning Test (CLT) as an alternative to the traditional ACT and SAT exams.

Standardized Testing Choice Act

Section 1. Definitions

(A) “CLT” means the Classic Learning Test administered by Classic Learning Initiatives.

Section 2. Post-Secondary and Higher Education Admissions

(A) Public institutions of higher education shall accept a student’s score on the ACT, CLT, or SAT, as those terms are defined in [insert statutory reference], for purposes of admission.

Section 3. College Preparation Assessments

(A) Public school districts shall provide each student in grades 11 and 12 with the opportunity to take the ACT, CLT, or SAT.

(B) Public school districts shall provide each student in grades 9 and 10 with the opportunity to take the Pre-ACT, CLT10, or PSAT.
