Biography

Josh Harkins, a native of Jackson, graduated from Mississippi State University and returned home in 1997. He currently serves as a State Senator.

“I began my career in commercial and residential construction focusing primarily on residential housing on units ranging from 250 to 1 million in price range,” he says of his beginnings in the industry. “I also did tenant build-outs and commercial settings at the same time, shopping center and office building construction as well–actually a wide gamut in all phases of the industry. All the while I worked with my father, Gary Harkins, in leasing aspects and learned that aspect from him, as well.”

Harkins says he knew Nancy Lane early on (“her reputation had proceeded her and my dad always thought a lot of Nancy,” he recalls) so when the opportunity arose to merge forces with her he was already enthusiastic about it.

Harkins brings his knowledge, background and experience of construction work to Lane-Harkins. “I believe I can a bring a vision to our clients of how an office can be laid out and what a property could eventually look like,” Harkins says. “I can offer my experience in providing quick and effective solutions as these qualities relate to building use for our clients. I provide options that make buildings work for them; it’s all keeping in bringing extra value to the client and what will work in their best interest.”

Currently living in Flowood, Harkins has been married to Andrea, a pharmaceutical rep, since 2003 with two young daughters. As far as hobbies, he is an avid hunter, golfer and coaches soccer for his daughter’s team.

His favorite part of working at Lane-Harkins? “I would say the interaction here with the staff, or friends as I consider them. This is an exciting business and economic development is part and parcel of what we do here at Lane-Harkins which is also a major part of my work as a State Senator. I take pride in providing clients what they need as does the rest of us here.”
