ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson Once Again Named One of Most Powerful Women in Washington
American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) CEO Lisa B. Nelson has once again been named one of the Most Powerful Women in Washington according to Washingtonian magazine, recognizing her leadership and influence in the nation’s capital and across the states.
The honor comes during a milestone year for Nelson, who recently announced that she will retire as ALEC CEO at the end of 2026 after 12 years leading the organization.
Since becoming CEO in 2014, Nelson has led ALEC’s work bringing together state legislators, policy experts and private-sector leaders around the organization’s principles of limited government, free markets and federalism. Under her leadership, ALEC has continued its work developing and sharing state-based policy solutions while expanding its reach and engagement with leaders throughout the country.
The Washingtonian recognition adds to a growing list of honors Nelson has received during her tenure at ALEC and marks another appearance on the magazine’s list of influential women in the Washington region.
Nelson has consistently emphasized the importance of state leadership and ALEC’s mission of providing a forum where legislators can exchange ideas and learn from the experiences of their colleagues across the country.
