Protecting American Voters and Fixing the Economy: Lee Schalk Discusses the 2024 Election on OAN Weekly Briefing
Panelists Weigh in on Divisive Remarks, Bold Campaign Moves, and the Issues Defining the 2024 election
ALEC Vice President of Policy Lee Schalk appeared on One America News’ Weekly Briefing to discuss the pressing issues surrounding the 2024 US Election.
Schalk connected voter sentiment to pocketbook issues, highlighting Americans’ concerns about the economy, inflation, and rising prices.
“It’s about families and what they’re feeling when it comes to the prices of gas, groceries, and housing.”
Schalk noted that ahead of Election Day, 64% of Americans believed the country was headed in the wrong direction. Schalk predicted this voter discontent would favor President Trump.
“That sentiment has major implications for this election.”
Host John Hines also broached the recent Supreme Court decision permitting Virginia to remove non-citizen voters from its rolls, which Schalk defended as “protecting the votes of American citizens” and pointed to the wise guardrails that Gov. Glenn Youngkin included in his executive order that are consistent with ALEC model policy.
“We have to remember this is about protecting the votes of American citizens. It also applies to those who have passed away or moved to other states. It’s about making it, as many have said, easy to vote and hard to cheat. There are some really good safeguards in place to make this effective. If you are to be removed from Virginia’s voter rolls, you receive notice that you have two weeks to provide documentation to show that you are eligible to vote. If you can’t do that, you’re removed. It’s about protecting the votes of American citizens.”
While polls showed a tight race, Americans ultimately agreed on Election Day that a new direction was needed to get the US economy back on track. Voters also decided overwhelming to pass state ballot measures to protect and safeguard American votes.
