Biography
Kevin Byrne has committed much of his life to public service and bettering his community. As a local Eagle Scout graduate Carmel High School he attended Scranton University and interned for former Congresswoman Sue Kelly. Following school he continued his volunteer service as an assistant scoutmaster; member of the Putnam Valley Town Planning Board; and volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Kent Volunteer Fire Department where he served three terms as department president. He was then employed by former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth as Deputy District Director.
Leaving the public sector, he was hired as a regional director for the American Heart Association organizing efforts and educating the public to prevent cardiovascular diseases and stroke. During this time he completed his graduate studies and received his M.P.A. concentrating in Healthcare Administration at Marist College. He then moved to the private sector in healthcare administration assisting the Sr. Director of Operations at CareMount Medical- previously the largest private multi-specialty medical group in the state.
Byrne first won elected office in 2016 in an open Assembly race following the retirement of Assemblyman Steve Katz. He served in the Assembly for three terms (2017 to 2022), where he served on a number of committees and task forces, but perhaps most notably as the ranking member on the Assembly Health Committee during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020 – 2022). During this time leading Republicans on the Health Committee, he was responsible for holding former Governor Cuomo responsible for his administration’s actions to during the nursing home scandal and subsequent cover-up.
In 2023 he began his current role serving as Putnam Count Executive where he serves as both the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Budget Officer for Putnam County Government. He has worked diligently to better prioritize necessary government spending, streamline services, improve county facilities, implement major cost savings initiatives, and lower taxes.
On top of his long-standing membership with ALEC and ACCE, he is a board member of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) (Jan. 2023 – Present), and a board member of the East of Hudson Watershed Corporation (Jan. 2023 – Present). In 2024, Byrne was also named to Run Gen Z‘s Rising Stars Club where he serves as a mentor for younger Generation Z officials and candidates, supporting a new generation of leaders across America.
Byrne currently lives in Mahopac with his wife Briana and their son Braeden.
