Four exceptional lawmakers earn ALEC’s July 2025 Legislator of the Month recognition for strengthening state leadership, advancing pro-growth policy, and building national momentum.
We are honored to recognize Indiana Speaker Todd Huston, Sen. Jim Buck, Sen. Linda Rogers, and Rep. Heath VanNatter as our July 2025 State Legislators of the Month. Each of these leaders plays a vital role in advancing the ALEC mission in Indiana, and we are proud to spotlight their outstanding contributions.
As host state leaders for the recent 2025 ALEC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Speaker Huston, along with ALEC Board Member and State Chair Sen. Jim Buck, and fellow State Chairs Sen. Linda Rogers and Rep. Heath VanNatter, were instrumental in making this year’s meeting one of the most impactful in recent history. Their leadership went far beyond logistics – they energized their colleagues and helped bring the largest delegation of legislators from any one state. Indiana lawmakers came ready to lead, engaging across all 10 ALEC task forces and contributing meaningfully to workshops, networking events, and strategic policy discussions.
By engaging their peers, these leaders elevated Indiana’s presence on the national stage while opening the door to policy collaboration, idea-sharing, and lasting legislative partnerships. This kind of leadership fuels momentum within state delegations and empowers lawmakers with practical tools and solutions to bring back home.
Speaker Huston highlighted Indiana’s leadership on education reform in his keynote remarks on the state’s universal school voucher system, positioning Indiana as a national model for school choice. His comments sparked important conversations among members and reinforced the ALEC commitment to student-centered, market-driven education policy.
Buck, a longtime ALEC leader and current Board Member, continues to provide principled guidance rooted in economic freedom and constitutional governance. Rogers, a trusted voice on education policy, and VanNatter, both continue to serve as State Chairs, committed to recruiting and mentoring fellow lawmakers.
Together, these four leaders have elevated Indiana’s standing within ALEC, showing how strong, collaborative leadership can deepen member engagement, unify the state delegation, and help shape policy conversations across the nation.
