Biography
Joel Watson, Jr. is the Director of Policy Advancement and Media Relations at the American Legislative Exchange Council. In his role, he directs media strategy, public outreach, and content development to advance free-market and limited-government policy solutions.
A native of Houma, Louisiana, Joel got his start as an intern with the Republican Party of Arkansas during the 2010 midterm election. From there, he worked with the Republican Party of Louisiana, the Leadership Institute, and on various political campaigns through LR3 Consulting in Baton Rouge. In 2019, Joel began working for the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office where he served as Deputy Secretary of State for Outreach and, later, as Communications Director.
Additionally, Joel participated in a political exchange program in Canada in 2024 through the American Council for Young Political Leaders.
Currently living in Arlington, VA, Joel spends his free time exploring national parks and historic sites, cheering on LSU sports, and watching Jeopardy!
