State Legislator of the Month, October 2026: Connecticut Senator Eric Berthel & Representative Joe Canino

Both leaders have demonstrated a willingness to advance practical, free-market solutions while standing up for the principles of limited government and individual opportunity.

We are proud to recognize Connecticut Rep. Joe Canino and Sen. Eric Berthel as the ALEC State Legislators of the Month for October 2026. Together, they represent the principled leadership and commitment to free-market policies that strengthen ALEC principles in Connecticut.

Rep. Joe Canino represents the 65th District and has quickly established himself as a strong advocate for his community and for policies that support Connecticut’s economy and public safety. During the 2026 legislative session, he championed legislation to support first responder recruitment and retention and worked to strengthen transparency and accountability for homeowners and community associations.

Sen. Eric Berthel represents the 32nd District and has been a consistent voice for Connecticut businesses, taxpayers, and families. A longtime ALEC leader, Sen. Berthel has served as Connecticut’s State Legislative Chair since 2022 and has built a strong record of pro-business advocacy. In 2026, he continued that work by advancing proposals to reduce personal income taxes, eliminate the highway use tax, and remove unnecessary occupational licensing fees.

Both leaders have demonstrated a willingness to advance practical, free-market solutions while standing up for the principles of limited government and individual opportunity. Their leadership has helped strengthen ALEC legislator engagement in Connecticut and provides a strong example of how legislators can work together to advance policies that make their state a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Congratulations, Rep. Joe Canino and Sen. Eric Berthel!
