ALEC-FreedomWorks Legislator of the Week

Representative Elijah Haahr grew up on a farm in southwest Missouri. He graduated cum laude in 2005 from Missouri Western State University (MWSU) with degrees in history and government & public affairs. After his time at MWSU, Rep. Haahr moved on to law school at the University of Missouri School of Law, graduating with honors. Rep. Haahr continues his work as an attorney in Springfield at the Lathrop Gage law firm focusing on business litigation.

Rep. Haahr is currently the Speaker Pro Tem in the Missouri House and represents Missouri’s 134th district. Since his election to the chamber in 2012, he has focused his efforts on curtailing human trafficking and expanding economic activity in the state. He hopes to be elected to the House speaker position in the 2019-2020 session; if elected, Rep. Haahr will be the first person to hold that position from Springfield and would preside over the 100th annual General Assembly.

In addition to his legislative work, Rep. Haahr is a member of the Legislative Oversight Committee, Special Committee on Litigation Reform and an active member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). He remains an active member in his local community as a member of the Springfield Jaycees and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee. Rep. Haahr is a dedicated family man to his wife, Amanda, and four children, Jackson, Reagan, Scarlett and Alexandra.
