ALEC on Hugh Hewitt Radio Show: Our Mission is to Help All Americans

Our mission is to help all Americans, whether it be in their business or in the children's education or in the area of healthcare. We want to ensure the policy solutions at the state level will help all Americans enjoy a better life.

Nationally syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt broadcast live from the ALEC 49th Annual Meeting in Atlanta and spoke with ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson.  They talked about the mission of ALEC and how the organization’s policies are making life better for all Americans. Below are highlights from the conversation between Hewitt and Nelson:

Hugh Hewitt: We have a lot of friends in common, so I feel like I know you, Lisa. Thank you for having me here in Atlanta. You lead one of the country’s most important policy organizations. Can you tell us more about ALEC?

Lisa B. Nelson: ALEC is a consortium of state legislators from all over the country, who get together and work alongside employers, small and large business owners, and policy stakeholders to develop policies that focus on free markets, limited government, and federalism, which is essentially pushing power back to the states.

Hugh Hewitt: What is the ALEC mission?

Lisa B. Nelson:  Our mission is to help all Americans, whether it be in their business or in the children’s education or in the area of healthcare. We want to ensure the policy solutions at the state level will help all Americans enjoy a better life.

Hugh Hewitt: You are well known for your ALEC model policies, tell me about those.

Lisa B. Nelson: I compare our model policies to a library. We have more than 900 model policies on our shelves. All of our policies are guided by the principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism.

Hugh Hewitt: This feels like a pivotal time in our history, what role is ALEC playing in the changing times?

Lisa B. Nelson:  People are waking up in America. People want to get involved. They want to take back their country.
