Department of Education, Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, and the Economy: Jonathan Williams on One America News

Education has always been a function of state and local government, but more importantly, parents.

In a recent interview with One America News (OAN) anchor John Hines, ALEC President Jonathan Williams shared his thoughts on the Department of Education bureaucracy, how states can take the lead going forward, as well as the latest discussions about the state of the economy.

States Taking the Lead in Education

Williams supports the idea, emphasizing that education has always been a state and local function and that the Trump administration is empowering parents through school choice.

Education has always been a function of state and local government, but more importantly, parents. Allowing parents to choose, and transitioning away from this bureaucracy in Washington, DC, which has never educated a single child — even though it employs tens of thousands of people and wastes untold taxpayer dollars — takes education to the state level, where it is most effectively managed.

Williams also highlighted the work ALEC has been doing in the education freedom movement by providing research that guides states in embracing such policies.

We’re now, as of just last week, at 15 states providing universal school choice that empowers parents to make decisions for their children. That’s something we at ALEC have been talking about for decades, and now this dream is becoming a reality because of President Trump’s work at the national level to empower parents even more in the states.

The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act and DOGE Efforts

Williams later discussed the upcoming expiration of the Trump tax cuts and the need for Congress to act quickly to provide market confidence.

One of the big issues facing taxpayers is the upcoming expiration of the Trump tax cuts. This is all happening at the same time as ongoing tariff discussions. It’s not moving on Capitol Hill, and as I mentioned in the last show, they should pass it right away, even before this tariff discussion, to give markets confidence that those tax cuts are not going to go away.

Williams went on to emphasize the importance of tax cuts and spending control to boost productivity and reduce inflation.

It’s amazing what happens when you stop spending money like a drunken sailor. Inflation numbers come in under projections, and of course, the efforts of DOGE are only going to help with that inflation. But, you know, John, the other thing that will help with the inflation piece is supply-side tax cuts.
