New Legislation Attempts to Silence Political Speech: Jake Morabito in the Wall Street Journal
“Virtually all campaign communications and political advertising created with the help of digital and internet tools could be theoretically roped into this law.”
The Wall Street Journal’s Mary Julia Koch, associate editor of the paper’s “Free Expression” section, penned an opinion piece entitled “Democrats vs. the AI Ad Machine” on new legislation that would regulate AI in political campaigns. The piece focuses on the AI Ads Act, sponsored by Senator Adam Schiff of California, which would “prohibit ‘the use of AI in whole or in part’ to represent political candidates or committees falsely and to solicit campaign funds.”
ALEC’s Senior Director of Policy Jake Morabito was quoted in the piece as saying “Virtually all campaign communications and political advertising created with the help of digital and internet tools could be theoretically roped into this law.”
