Using Preemptions To Rein In Government Overreach: Lee Schalk in USA Today Florida
"Preemptions can help policy consistency and foster economic stability."
Lee Schalk, ALEC Vice President of Policy, was quoted in a USA Today Florida affiliate article on state preemptions of local authority in Florida.
“In recent time, we’ve witnessed a trend wherein activists target local governments to advocate for economically damaging policies that would likely falter in state capitols,” he said. “Consequently, state legislators have found themselves in a delicate position, compelled to enact preemption laws to rein in excessive governmental overreach at the local level.”
Schalk also said preemptions can help “policy consistency and foster economic stability.”
