Groups defend free speech and dialogue
Arlington, Virginia (October 23, 2014) – Today, the American Legislative Exchange Council released a coalition letter where more than 50 free market organizations announced their support for the right of companies and groups from across the political spectrum to engage in policy discussions that affect competitiveness.
In recent weeks, dozens of professional activist groups have attempted to draw companies into controversy by misrepresenting specific policies as extremist views. Their actions are detrimental to American Democracy, and the letter urges companies to reject demands that restrict free speech and policy discussion, asking:
Fundamentally, do successful job creators have the right to engage with the wide variety of policy perspectives in the main current of American thought (whether they agree or disagree) or shall companies be constrained to a narrow range of acceptable audiences for their policy dialogue?
