Mike Pence to Address Conservative State Leaders at ALEC States and Nation Policy Summit

Setting State Priorities for 2023

Washington, D.C. (Nov. 29, 2022)- Former Vice President Mike Pence will address state lawmakers at the States and Nation Policy Summit Nov. 29-Dec. 1 in Washington, D.C. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the nation’s largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators, hosts the annual summit. Pence is scheduled to address lawmakers on Thursday, Dec. 1 as they gather to set priorities for the 2023 state legislative sessions.  State lawmakers from nearly all 50 states are expected to attend, share best practices, and address issues ranging from criminal justice reform, education freedom, energy affordability, and inflation.

ALEC members will also consider a slate of  29 draft model policies relating to health care, economic development, international relations and more.

Other speakers include:

  • The Honorable Newt Gingrich
  • U.S. Senator Mike Braun, Indiana
  • U.S. Senator Steve Daines, Montana
  • Governor Doug Ducey, Arizona
  • Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, Virginia
  • Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, West Virginia
  • U.S. Representative Jim Banks, Indiana
  • Ambassador Bi-khim Hsiao, Taiwan

ALEC States and Nation policy summit workshops include:

  • Previewing the 2023 legislative and legal landscape for technology
  • Using Article V of the Constitution to fight inflation
  • Learning from California’s job-killing regulatory mistakes
  • Tackling the growing homelessness crisis
  • Fighting back against state and federal bureaucrats

ALEC will honor Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the ALEC International Pioneer Award. Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova will accept the award on President Zelenskyy’s behalf.

“Solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems are not coming from Washington, but from the states,” noted Arizona Senate President and ALEC National Chairwoman Karen Fann. “As we have proven in Arizona, applying ALEC principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism leads to economic growth and prosperity as well as greater individual liberty and freedom.”

“Our members are the reason ALEC has been a source for trusted policy solutions for nearly 50 years,” added ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson. “As we look ahead to the New Year, we are thrilled to be joined this week by lawmakers from across the country and to share policy ideas rooted in the ALEC principles. While Washington remains gridlocked, state lawmakers will continue to lead the way in 2023.”
