ALEC Members Gather in Orlando for 50th Annual Meeting
Orlando, FL (July 26, 2023) – Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will keynote the opening lunch at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) 50th Annual Meeting, which takes place July 26th-28th in Orlando. As the nation’s largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators, ALEC brings together elected officials, policy experts, and industry leaders from the 50 states to share best practices and develop innovative policy solutions rooted in the principles of free markets, limited government, and federalism. Throughout the three-day conference, attendees will attend workshops, plenary sessions, and task force meetings.
Attendees will also hear from:
- Dr. Arthur Laffer
- Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest
- Polish Ambassador to the United States, Marek Magierowski
- Swiss Ambassador to the United States, Jacques Pitteloud
- Former U.S. Secretary of HUD, Dr. Ben Carson
- Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick

- And more…
ALEC Annual Meeting workshop topics include addressing politicized investment strategies like ESG, risks and rewards of new artificial intelligence technology, stopping violent crime and improving public safety, building on the momentum of the education freedom movement, and hitting the brakes on inflation. At the ALEC task force meetings, members will also debate, discuss, and vote on 34 draft model policies relating to health care, economic development, international relations, and more.
“Rather than relying on Washington, DC, the answers to our nation’s most pressing issues can be found in the states,” said Florida Representative and ALEC National Chair Daniel Perez. “While Congress idles in gridlock, the free state of Florida continues to flourish, and I am thrilled to host the ALEC Annual Meeting here in my home state.”
This week, ALEC will also honor winners of the Yass Prize – an award created by Jeff and Janine Yass to honor innovative education providers for providing sustainable, transformational, outstanding, and permissionless education. Last year alone, the Yass Prize handed out more than $20 million to numerous innovators who were recognized for “breaking the rules” in education and finding new ways to maximize student success.
“For 50 years, ALEC members have pursued individual liberty and economic opportunity for all Americans,” said ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson. “As we reflect on our 50th year, we are grateful for the men and women who boldly pursued policies like universal education freedom in their state capitols this year. We look forward to discussing these life-changing policies at our Annual Meeting this week.”
