In Our Shared Vision for America, States Lead the Way: ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson Responds to State of the Union Address

Bold leadership from state leaders has kept me unwaveringly optimistic about the future of our nation.

Today, ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson offered her response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

In his State of the Union address last night, President Biden’s vision for America was clear: increased taxes, burdensome regulations, and expansive government programs that will continue to stifle the entrepreneurial spirit of America.

For more than five decades, ALEC has championed trusted policy solutions that unleash the full potential of America’s economic engine to generate growth and opportunity for all.

As US Sen. Katie Britt aptly noted in the Republican response, we find ourselves in dire need of candid conversations about the future of our nation. It’s abundantly clear that the solutions won’t emerge from the corridors of power in Washington, D.C. Instead, they lie within the states.

Sen. Britt’s home state of Alabama serves as the perfect example. Hours before President Biden addressed the nation, Gov. Kay Ivey signed the Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education Act into law, making Alabama the 11th state in the nation with universal education freedom accounts for all families and students.

Despite the challenges we face, this type of bold leadership from state leaders has kept me unwaveringly optimistic about the future of our nation. With half a century of experience in delivering trusted, state-focused policy solutions, ALEC members are uniquely positioned to drive positive change across the nation.

By working together, across party lines, we can rediscover an America where every individual is free to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. That is the promise of our great nation, and with the states leading the way, we will ensure it endures for generations to come.
