ALEC 2024 Essential Policy Solutions: Jonathan Williams on The Hugh Hewitt Show
This is a guide for state legislators as they come to us for recommendations on free-market policies that are working in the states.
Jonathan Williams, ALEC Executive Vice President of Policy and Chief Economist, spoke with host Hugh Hewitt on the tax policies across the states, the Ron DeSantis vs. Gavin Newson debate, and ALEC’s 2024 Essential Policy Solutions.
For the governor’s debate between Florida’s Ron DeSantis and California’s Gavin Newsom, Williams posed his questions that he would ask Governor DeSantis on what is next for the Florida freedom agenda and Governor Newsom on the economic state of California.
Florida has already been cutting regulations. They’ve already been doing so many things that it really enhances economic opportunity and help small business. I would ask Governor DeSantis, “What’s next on the freedom loving agenda to continue this progress in the state of Florida this spring, getting nearly 1,000 people per day from the other 49 United States?” I would ask Governor Newsom, “Why is it that 300,000 Americans in the last 12 months have voted with their feet and left California?”
On ALEC’s 2024 Essential Policy Solutions report, Williams talked on its usage as a guidebook for legislators across the nation.
This is a guide for state legislators as they come to us for recommendations on free-market policies that are working in the states. You’ve already talked to many of the ones that are cutting taxes, reducing red tape across the United States, empowering individual workers with right to work and other freedom enhancing policies on labor. I think the biggest issue out there — and it’s a huge priority for ALEC — is in education, working on empowering parents with school choice. Other big policies that matter include keeping ESG out of a pension system and enhancing economic freedom. And again, empowering parents with choices to have the very best education outcomes for their children.
