June CEO Update

We’re here to ignite resurgence. And with your continued engagement, that’s exactly what we’ll do.

From the beginning, ALEC was built on a simple but powerful idea: that limited government, free markets, and federalism work. Not just in theory, but in practice, in real communities, in real legislatures, with real results. Today, more leaders than ever are turning to ALEC for answers.

To that end, I am proud to announce our newest policy resource for legislators: the ALEC Process and Procedures Task Force, which will promote clear rules of engagement between government and its citizens. At ALEC, there is a seat at the table for all state legislators and business leaders who believe the rules of government must be made fairly for the betterment of the American people.

As I wrote in my new op-ed with ALEC 2025 National Chair and West Virginia Senator Patricia Rucker, critics may decry our commonsense solutions, but the facts remain: transparency isn’t suppression. Security isn’t exclusion. Citizenship standards aren’t barriers, they are guarantees. When every vote is legal and every process accountable, the system works.

This Task Force, chaired by Rhode Island Rep. Jon Brien and Honest Elections Project Executive Director Jason Snead, will not stop with election integrity. It will work to modernize and streamline government to fit the challenges of the moment while holding true to the Framers’ values as we approach America’s 250th birthday celebration on July 4, 2026. The foundation of good governance starts with getting the process right, and that’s exactly what this Task Force is designed to do.

The impact of ALEC was on full display last month during our State Chair Fly-In. Held here at ALEC headquarters, right outside Washington, DC, lawmakers from across the country explored what it means to lead as principled champions in the states. As we met with leaders from the White House and Capitol Hill, it was the perfect display of state solutions in action.

And the timing couldn’t have been better. During our time with staff from the offices of Speaker Mike Johnson – an ALEC alum himself – and Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain, we heard about the negotiations behind the “Big, Beautiful” budget deal, as the U.S. House responded to more than 400 ALEC state legislators who made the case for the benefits of making the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent.

At our dinner event, Congressman Eric Burlison, a former ALEC State Chair from Missouri, proclaimed, “I wouldn’t be in Congress today without ALEC.” The message throughout our state chairs’ time in Washington was unmistakable: state leadership isn’t just relevant, it’s essential – and the path to national renewal begins in state capitols.

But the week was also filled with heartbreak.

The violent attack outside the Capital Jewish Museum was a gut-wrenching reminder of what happens when we abandon moral clarity. A deliberate act of hatred, targeting innocent lives in a place dedicated to remembrance and truth. And yes, it was preventable.

For months, ALEC has warned about the consequences of legitimizing violent pro-Hamas demonstrations in the name of “free expression.” We’ve condemned these movements without hesitation. As we made clear in a joint letter signed by hundreds of ALEC legislators: there is no justification for tolerating the continued existence of Hamas. We stand with Israel—today, tomorrow, and always.

We must stay focused on our mission and the state-based solutions that work, and our 2025 Annual Meeting in Indianapolis couldn’t come at a better time with record attendance and registration!

From July 16–18, we’ll gather to celebrate policy victories, sharpen our tools by developing new solutions, and lay out a bold roadmap for education freedom, energy independence, and government that serves the people. If you haven’t secured your spot, now is the time. Tickets are available, hotel blocks are filling fast, and the future of state-led reform will be forged in Indiana.

We’re here to ignite resurgence. And with your continued engagement, that’s exactly what we’ll do.
