Director/Manager – Health and Human Services Task Force
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the nation’s largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators, is seeking to hire a Director/Manager for the Health and Human Services Task Force, depending on experience. The Task Force Director/Manager serves as a policy expert and point of contact on issues related to health and human services for ALEC members, staff, and the media.
To succeed in the role, you must be detail-oriented, customer-service oriented, a self-starter, and work well under pressure. Qualified candidates will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills. You must demonstrate a strong commitment to ALEC’s mission of promoting the Jeffersonian principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism.
Essential functions for the role include:
- Detailed state and federal legislation tracking
- Drafting timely commentary, op-eds, research publications, and written analysis
- Managing task force logistics, administrative responsibilities, and special projects
- Planning and executing in-person task force meetings, legislator academies, issue briefings, and other educational programming
- Policy research and summation
- Attending coalition meetings and policy events as needed
Core Requirements:
- Minimum of 2-5 years of related experience, preferably in health care policy. Previous policy research and media experience is helpful.
- Bachelor’s Degree; graduate level degree is a plus
- Some travel is required (10-15%)
