The Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development (CIED) Task Force at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) seeks a Task Force Coordinator.

Founded on the principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism, ALEC is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators. The CIED Task Force focuses on policy issues that impact consumers, workers and businesses in order to enhance competitiveness, promote employment and encourage innovation.

One of ALEC’s largest task forces, the CIED Task Force also has the broadest range of issue sets. From occupational licensing to Right-to-Work to regulatory sandbox policies, the CIED Task Force tackles the issues that impact consumers, workers, and businesses. If you are interested in policies that enhance competitiveness, promote employment, encourage innovation, and limit government regulations imposed on business, the CIED Task Force is the task force for you.

As the Task Force Coordinator, your main responsibility is to support the CIED Task Force Director. The role is an opportunity accomplish the tasks listed below, but also an opportunity to go beyond the typical DC coordinator role. You will be interacting with state legislators and legislative staff from across the country, speaking with government affairs leaders and business owners, and learning from issue topic experts. You will help manage a newly formed and popular working group comprised of legislative and committee staff, including having the opportunity to coordinate and eventually lead webinars for the group.

Typical responsibilities for the role include:

  • Coordinating task force logistics and administrative responsibilities
  • Assisting with planning and running in-person academies and issue briefings
  • Detailed legislation tracking
  • Drafting timely op-eds and blog posts
  • Policy research and summation
  • Attending local coalition meetings

To succeed in the role, you must be detail-oriented, customer-service oriented, a self-starter, and work well under pressure. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a can-do attitude are also keys to success. Finally, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to ALEC’s mission of promoting the Jeffersonian principles of limited government, free markets and federalism.

Role Requirements:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: 1-3 years
  • Attendance: this is an in-person role; no majority hybrid or remote options are currently available
  • Some travel is required (10-15%)
  • Start date: Immediate
