ALEC Announces New Process and Procedures Task Force
New Task Force Reaffirms ALEC’s Commitment to Federalism Principles and Integrity.
ARLINGTON, Va. – The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is proud to announce the launch of the Process and Procedures Task Force, a new initiative promoting clear rules of engagement between government and its citizens. This is the second new ALEC task force launched this year, marking a period of continued growth for the largest nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators.
“It’s time to safeguard the electoral process through the principles of federalism, transparency, and constitutional integrity,” said ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson. “For more than a decade, we’ve watched the rise of misinformation, media manipulation, and coordinated campaigns designed to undermine faith in elections. Now is time to act.”
In recent years, ALEC has enhanced federalism by adopting model policies such as the Only Citizens Vote Act, the School Board Election Date Act, and the Safeguard American Votes and Election Act. The Process and Procedures Task Force will expand these efforts. The first meeting of the new task force is expected to feature robust discussion on streamlining government, strengthening voter ID requirements, blocking foreign influence through illicit campaign donations, and addressing concerns over the late arrival and counting of mail-in ballots.
“One thing that becoming a citizen of this country has taught me is that only citizens should have a voice in shaping the future of America,” said ALEC National Chair and West Virginia State Senator Patricia Rucker. “This new task force will help preserve the Founder’s intent and ensure the destiny we choose is our own.”
Recent polling shows strong public backing for the new task force’s priorities, as 73% of registered voters believe mail-in ballots should arrive by Election Day, 75% support requiring photo ID to vote, and 84% want states to routinely remove deceased, relocated, or non-citizens from the voter rolls.
Leading the new task force will be Katie Thompson, who joins ALEC with extensive federal and state government experience in this area.
“Governments’ processes and procedures serve as the guardrails for democracy,” said Thompson. “We must ensure the rules of government are made fairly and executed for the betterment of the American people.”
The Process and Procedures Task Force will hold their inaugural meeting at the 52nd ALEC Annual Meeting, which takes place July 16-18 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
