ALEC Announces New Veterans and Military Affairs Task Force
New Initiative Strengthens ALEC’s Commitment to Supporting Veterans and Military Service Members.
Arlington, VA – The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is proud to announce the creation of the Veterans and Military Affairs Task Force, a new initiative designed to address the needs of veterans, service members, and their families. This Task Force will equip state legislators with tools to craft trusted policy solutions that support the veteran and military communities.
“The establishment of the Task Force on Veterans and Military Affairs underscores ALEC’s unwavering commitment to those who have selflessly served our nation,” said ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson. “Through this Task Force, we will create practical and actionable model policies that deliver meaningful results for a community that has given so much to our country.”
The new task force will be led by ALEC Board Member and Iowa Speaker Pro Tempore John Wills, who will serve as Public Sector Chair. Combined Arms CEO Mike Hutchings will serve as Private Sector Chair, and ALEC’s Zach Federico will serve as Task Force Manager. Together, they will focus on tackling the challenges veterans and service members face. Through this initiative, ALEC empowers state legislators to lead on these critical issues and foster meaningful change for veterans and service members nationwide.
“As a veteran, I understand the profound challenges that accompany military service and transitioning to civilian life, as well as each states unique experience with military affairs within it,” said Speaker Pro Tempore John Wills. “This Task Force will help bridge the gap between those challenges by empowering legislators to craft real solutions that impact their communities.”
ALEC’s unique membership makes it a leader in supporting veterans and military families. Not only has former ALEC member Doug Collins been nominated to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, but more than 10% of ALEC’s current members are veterans. Additionally, 9% of ALEC members come from military families or actively serve on veterans and military affairs committees in their states. Finally, both Task Force Chairs are Army veterans, and the Task Force Manager proudly serves as a member of the National Guard.
The Veterans and Military Affairs Task Force will hold its inaugural meetings at the 52nd ALEC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
