Lawmakers and policy leaders unite to chart a new course for America’s future

Indianapolis, IN – Today, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) kicks off its 52nd Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, running through Friday, July 18. As the premier gathering of state legislators and policy leaders, the ALEC Annual Meeting brings together more than 1,500 elected officials, policy experts, and industry voices to advance trusted policy solutions rooted in limited government, free markets, and federalism.

Attendees at this year’s meeting will hear from a powerful slate of national speakers, including:

  •  U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon
    •  Governor Mike Braun, Indiana
    •  Presidential Medal of Freedom Awardee Dr. Arthur Laffer
    •  Vivek Ramaswamy, Ohio Gubernatorial Candidate and Entrepreneur
    •  Economist Stephen Moore

GENERAL SESSION SPEAKERS WILL BE LIVESTREAMED HERE

Throughout the three-day event, ALEC members will participate in workshops, plenary sessions, and task force meetings to debate and vote on model policies addressing some of the most urgent challenges facing the states. Topics this year include protecting innovation from overregulation, safeguarding free speech, expanding education freedom, enhancing energy resilience, and ensuring fiscal sustainability.

“Our members arrive in Indianapolis with a renewed belief in the promise of America,” said West Virginia Senator Patricia Rucker, ALEC National Chair. “States are leading with bold ideas that drive economic excellence, expand educational freedom, and restore faith in the American Dream for every family.”

This week, ALEC members will consider more than 60 draft model policies across an array of issue areas ranging from improving student outcomes and election security to artificial intelligence and unleashing American energy. These discussions take place in ALEC’s member-led task forces, which operate as the nation’s most robust incubators of policy innovation.

“When legislators from across the country come together to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and build consensus, the results are powerful,” said ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson. “This year’s Annual Meeting in Indianapolis reflects the growing momentum behind real solutions instead of top-down mandates, and the strength of the states to lead America forward.”

The ALEC Annual Meeting will also celebrate state leadership in expanding workers’ rights, protecting free enterprise, and celebrating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. The program will conclude with a forward-looking discussion on what it means to govern in a time when the power shifts back to the states, featuring voices from business, government, and civil society.
