2024 Policy Solutions for Every American: Lee Schalk and Jonathan Williams on NewsTalkSTL
Everyone Can Be Involved in Policy Even If They Don’t Like Politics
Lee Schalk, ALEC Vice President of Policy, and Jonathan Williams, ALEC Chief Economist and Executive Vice President of Policy, spoke with NewsTalk STL hosts Tim Jones and Chris Arps at the 2023 States & Nation Policy Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona. On the show, Schalk and Williams discussed the economic problems facing the states and highlighted the potential impact of ALEC policy solutions going into 2024.
During his interview, Williams noted ALEC will continue to promote limited government, free markets and federalism through publications such as the Essential Policy Solutions for 2024.
As we go forward over the next 50 years, we are fighting for limited government and free market policies across the board, whether it’s taxes, energy, or education freedom. Those are the things we’re going to be working on day to day. I think it’s going to be a focus because I think we lose when the decisions are made primarily in Washington, DC, but we are overwhelmingly winning right now when the decisions are made in the states.
In the next interview, Schalk reiterated that ALEC ideas are for all Americans across both red and blue states.
We’re talking about things that are really for all Americans. And one thing that I’ll say until I’m blue in the face: there’s obviously no downside to letting Americans keep more of their hard-earned paychecks. There’s no downside to giving parents more choice in their children’s education. There’s no downside to making our communities safer. And those are messages that resonate no matter where we go. Red states or blue states.
